If you see a dog or cat on our website that you would like to meet, please visit the Adoption Center. Our adoption counselors are familiar with every animal in our shelter and are happy to discuss each animal’s individual needs.
In order to ensure a good match, an adoption counselor will ask you a few questions in an attempt to gain an understanding of your home, family, lifestyle and experience with animals.
All members of the household must meet the dog/cat in the presence of a BEBHS adoption counselor before the animal goes home. This is to ensure that all household members are comfortable with the animal, can safely handle him/her and that there are no allergies or health concerns.
FOR DOGS ADOPTIONS ONLY: All existing household dogs must meet the dog that you are interested in adopting in the presence of a BEBHS adoption counselor in order to ensure the safety and compatibility of the dogs.
If you are interested in adopting an animal from BEBHS, we will ask you to fill out an adoption application. Once the application is approved, we usually hold a dog for 24 hours so the adopter can prepare the home for the new family member. Most cats may go home on the same day, but there may be exceptions to this rule particularly if an adopter needs more time to prepare the home for the new pet.
REQUIREMENTS TO ADOPT AN ANIMAL:
• You must have photo identification with you.
• Adopting applicants must be 18 years or older.
• If you rent your home, we require landlord approval in writing (either a letter from your landlord or copy of your lease). You must bring this document at the time of adoption.
• If you own your home, we may require proof of home ownership (tax statement, homeowners insurance statement or mortgage statement).
• We accept cash, MasterCard, Visa, or imprinted check to pay the adoption fee.

PET SUPPLIES:
The Adoption Center sells pet supplies (collars, leashes, crates, etc.) so that you don’t have
to make a stop at the pet supply store on the way home. We also sell a 3-Day Pet Survival Kit, which provides you with the items you will need to care for your pet in case of a disaster or emergency. Your purchases help support our Adoption Center operations.
