Promoting the humane treatment of all animals is at the heart of our mission at the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society. Humane education achieves this, but it also teaches much, much more. By teaching children empathy and respect towards animals, they also learn empathy and respect for each other, as well as self-respect. They begin to understand and appreciate their community and the world around them through a values-based approach to life. We believe this empowers children to grow up into responsible and caring adults who want to make the world a better place.
Humane Education Programs
We currently offer a variety of humane education programs to the community. Check back often, as we are constantly striving to add more educational and fun programs. We offer a variety of standards-based programs to public and independent schools in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

Service learning is a teaching method where guided or classroom learning is deepened through service to others in a process that provides time for reflection of the service experience.

We offer a variety of Volunteer Opportunities for children aged 10-15 with a parent or guardian and for ages 16 and up without a guardian.

Shelter/Adoption
Center Tours |

Donate A Book
Our goal is to make a copy of each book on our bibliography available for interested readers here at the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society. A few authors and publishers have generously made copies available. We are seeking donations of books to help us expand our new humane education library collection. For a list of books, please see our Amazon wish list. Many of these books may also be available at your local bookstore.
