Time is of the utmost importance when dealing with a pet that needs emergency medical care. Don't be caught unprepared. BEBHS does not offer after-hours emergency care.

EMERGENCY TIPS:

• Know where your local emergency clinics are located. See our list below.

• Keep a list of your local emergency vet clinics posted where you can easily access it, near your home phone or on your refrigerator, for instance. Print a PDF version of our list.

• Program emergency clinic numbers into your cell phone along with poison prevention numbers; you never know when and where you will need these numbers. Don't have a cell phone? Keep a list in your wallet.

• Make a practice run to your nearest emergency clinic and plan your quickest route. You do not have time to get lost when your pet needs you the most.

• If your pet has any medical condition or takes prescription medication, have a document prepared that lists the condition, medication names, and dosages. It's important to bring this information with you to the emergency clinic, if possible. This can help the emergency medical team rule out reactions to medications, overdoses, and possible contraindications so they can quickly diagnose and treat your pet's ailment.

Don't panic. We know that's easier said than done, but your best friend is relying on you to keep them safe and to act with confidence during an emergency. Your panic will only further stress your pet and make the situation worse for both of you. Take a step back and BREATHE to help you focus. Take a First Aid course for pets so you know how to handle the situation best - it could save your best friend's life. BEBHS offers a "First Aid and CPR for Cats and Dogs" course. Please check the list of upcoming events for the next course.

BEBHS does not offer after-hours emergency care. If your pet needs emergency attention when we are closed, please visit one of the emergency hospitals listed below. If possible, call to let them know you are on your way so they are prepared.
