The Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society is a private, nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization governed by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors who work on behalf of BEBHS and the animals in our community.

Board of Directors
Eric Bohr, EdD - President
Eric has served on the BEBHS Board of Directors since 2006. He is a Change Manager at Cisco Systems and has worked in the management field for many years helping large companies and nonprofits (including rescue organizations) complete strategic planning and manage organizational change. He also is active in the Bay Area Organization Development Network. Eric joined the BEBHS Board because he believes pets are part of each person’s family and wants us to realize our vision of every adoptable animal being in a life-long home. He supports his beliefs in his own family with his three cats and one dog – all rescues.
Alan G. Shriro, DVM - Vice President
Alan has been on the BEBHS Board of Directors since 1997, and served as president for most of his tenure. He believes in serving our community’s animals and helping to save animal lives. Alan has co-owned Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital for 32 years. He served as President of the Alameda County Veterinary Medical Association for two terms and as the Peer Review and Ethics chairman for Alameda County. When not working at the Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital, Alan loves to scuba dive and travel the world. He is an award winning photographer and is the proud guardian of 2 dogs and 3 cats.
Corinne Lamata - Secretary
Corinne joined the board in January 2009. As a lifelong resident of the East Bay Area and former employee of BEBHS, Corinne has very personal knowledge of the important role BEBHS plays in our community. She is Individual Gifts Manager at the San Francisco SPCA, and formerly held Director of Annual Giving positions at Stanford School of Medicine and at UCSF. Corinne also has years of experience in marketing and marketing communications. At Peet's Coffee & Tea, she organized and managed company-wide rebranding and large scale direct response campaigns. Corinne is a lifelong animal advocate and supporter of animal welfare causes, and she is the guardian of two naughty-but-nice red rescue cats: Butch and Buster.
Brent Welling - Treasurer
Brent Welling joined the BEBHS Board of Directors in 2011. Brent has over 20 years of experience in the technology and financial services industry. Brent is currently VP of Finance at FirstREX, a private equity firm in San Francisco specializing in real estate investments and mortgage backed securities. Previoiusly, Brent was VP of Finance at QRS, Inc., a publicly traded software company in Richmond, California where he led all finance, strategic planning and M&A activities. Prior to QRS, Brent worked at the Pacific Telesis Group where he held management positions in Finance, Corporate Development and Strategic Planning. Brent started his career at the consulting firm of McKinsey and Company, and holds an MBA and a BS of Engineering from Cornell University. Brent has also been involved in the non-profit sector, having provided consulting services to non-profit organizations in education. Brent lives in Lafayette, California with his wife Shereen (a veterinarian technician with Guide Dogs for the Blind) and his "mixed breed" rescue dog, Solo.
Jennifer Carri - Director
Jennifer joined the Board in 2009. She is an attorney practicing in the areas of real estate and telecommunications and has served as in-house counsel for corporations such as Con-way and Cablevision. She also has a psychotherapy practice focusing on counseling students and is affiliated with University of San Francisco and Golden Gate University. Jennifer joined the Board of BEBHS to contribute to the improvement of the lives of animals in the community through adoption placement, education and service. She is the proud guardian of Tyler, a 16 year-old black lab/hound rescue.
Susan Fuller - Director
Susan joined the BEBHS board in January 2010. Susan has worked in leadership roles in retail for almost 27 years. Currently she is a Senior Regional Director for Old Navy. She has been with Gap, Inc. since 2006 leading the overall store performance for 220 stores in 13 states. Her responsibilities include; hiring and staffing, operations, payroll, talent management, and overall P&L for each store, district and region. Susan has a passion for helping non-profit organization with fund-raising for years. Most recently she has been the top fund-raiser for AIDS Walk San Francisco for all of Gap and one of the top 10 for all of San Francisco. She has helped the Humane Society in her hometown in Upstate New York by raising funds for an outside dog play area that was built early last year. Susan has lived in her home in Danville for 11 years and considers Northern California her home. Her family consists of her husband, Mike; a son, Nicholas and a daughter, Vanessa; 1 dog – Riley who is a trained therapy dog, and 2 cats – Spooky and Spice.
Stefanie Kraus - Director
Stefanie joined the BEBHS Board of Directors in 2011. As a User Experience Designer, she has worked in leadership roles for a variety of startups, larger companies and small businesses for almost 20 years. In her current position at Chomp Inc. she is responsible for all aspects of the design process, including user research and product design. Prior to that, she built and lead in-house design teams as Design Director at Kosmix and Snocap and as Design Lead at Bebo where she worked closely with the executive management teams to ensure that business and marketing goals were met. Stefanie has been volunteering as a cat socializer with BEBHS since 2009 and also has helped with mobile adoptions and fundraising events. She joined the board to bring her commitment to BEBHS to the next level and to help as many homeless animals as possible. Stefanie lives in Berkeley with her husband, Michael, and their rescue cats, Jojo and Simon.
Susan Lin - Director
Susan joined the BEBHS Board in January 2010. She joins us most recently as VP of business analytics at BlackRock. Prior to that, Susan was a healthcare investment banker at Merrill Lynch in New York. She eventually transitioned into the COO role at a healthcare startup in Texas that subsequently sold to Varian Medical Systems. In her spare time, Susan enjoys dancing, cooking and running and visiting her dog in Texas – a rat terrier named Yoda.
Senior Management
Stephanie Erickson - Interim Executive Director
Stephanie began her career in animal welfare at BEBHS in July 2007, after volunteering and fostering for several shelters and animal rescue organizations. She grew up in Portland, Oregon and relocated to the Bay Area in 2001 during her eight-year tenure with a wholesale mortgage lender, where she held several key management positions including her most recent position as strategic business manager. Stephanie left the financial sector because she has always been passionate about animals and their welfare, and wanted to make a difference in their lives.
Stephanie holds a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of California at Berkeley, where her area of concentration was International Animal Welfare Policy. She lives in the East Bay with her husband, Brian, and their three rescue cats.
Sara Kersey - Program Director
Sara is an East Bay native with a lifelong interest in animals and their relationships with people. After volunteering with Contra Costa Animal Services, Sara decided to make animal welfare her career and joined the Berkeley Humane staff in 2002. She has managed animal care, adoption, community support and humane education programs at BEBHS and the East Bay SPCA. Sara now serves as Program Director, creating and strengthening programs that will improve the lives of our community's animals, including BEBHS' new Kitten Nursery program. Sara lives in Martinez with her family and two adopted senior dogs.
Dr. Bela Kisamov, DVM - Medical Director
Dr. Bela Kisamov holds a B.S. in zoology from San Francisco State University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University. As part of her Ross University studies, she spent her last year in clinical rotations at the University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine. After returning to the Bay Area, she spent two years working as an associate veterinarian at Campus Veterinary Clinic. For the past three years she has worked part time practicing shelter medicine at Oakland Animal Services, and has provided relief services at other local veterinary hospitals. Dr. Kisamov has worked as a relief veterinarian at BEBHS, so she comes to us with familiarity around our hospital staff and services. She is highly skilled in surgery, very knowledgeable about shelter medicine, and will be a valuable asset to the BEBHS team. Dr. Kisamov is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Alameda County Veterinary Medical Association, and the Association of Shelter Veterinarians. She is the proud owner of two rescued cats and a four pound Chihuahua, and she occasionally takes in foster animals.
